What a smashin’ time we spent, sharing stories around a Travel and holiday theme. We read from Jim Perrin’s Travels with the Flea’ and heard from a home-grown writer in the group, as well as everyone who was happy to write and chat about where they would love to go…
We learned from a Polish participant the Polish word for Spain, and a lovely memory created by Desiderata, brought a tear to my eye!
Here is a wee extract from Desiderata
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.”
Liz Lochhead is a Motherwell-born poet and we looked at her ‘Trouble is not my middle name’ poem.
We had an Every Picture tells a Story activity, some people said with drawings about their holiday destination, and wrote from pictures and postcards. We had some laughter and tears, some goodbyes and hellos to new people.
Smashin’ group, and people.
